The Child Soldier: Our Writing
Giving Voice to Youth Affected by War

The Rebels
by Ambrose Davies, age 17, Government Rokel Secondary School
Freetown, Sierra Leone

The rebels entered in Freetown on Tuesday at mid night so they attack
on Wednesday. They behave so badly, killed people cut legs, hands and
burnt people's houses and destroyed all our properties and also put
our education behind. In addition, since they have destroyed my education
and everything we own I went with them in the bush for many months. When I
return home I found out that my mother was dead but I met my uncle who
took me back to school.
